Neither Do I Condemn You.


The story of the adulterous woman in John 7:53–8:11 raises important questions: How were the Scriptures preserved centuries before the printing press? Is the text we have original? Is the account even true?

While most evangelical scholars agree that the story was not original to John’s Gospel, the truth taught is the pervasive message of the New Testament: Jesus exalts himself above the law, alters its sanctions, and points to its main goal in love that honors him.

And in doing so, Jesus reestablishes righteousness on the basis of grace.
