Spiritual Warfare: How to Stand Strong in God
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” – Ephesians 6:10
The Reality of the Battle
Life doesn’t just hit hard – sometimes it feels like something is targeting you. The constant temptations. The pressure at work. The fractures in your marriage. The doubts that keep you up at night.
That’s not just coincidence. Scripture makes it clear – we are in a war. And it’s not against people, politics, or bad luck. It’s against an unseen enemy who knows your weaknesses.
If you’re going to stand unshaken, you need more than willpower. You need strength in God during spiritual warfare. This isn’t just survival – it’s learning to fight and win with His power.
Know Your Enemy
You can’t fight what you don’t understand.
Jesus warns us in John 10:10 that the enemy comes “to steal, kill, and destroy.” He does it through:
- Doubt – questioning God’s promises.
- Temptation – offering a counterfeit pleasure.
- Division – driving wedges between you and the people you need.
- Distraction – pulling you away from your purpose.
For men today, that looks like lust, pride, bitterness, and isolation. Recognizing these patterns is the first step to building strength in God in spiritual warfare.
Put On the Full Armor of God
A soldier doesn’t step onto the battlefield without gear – and neither should you.
Ephesians 6:13-18 gives us the full kit:
- Belt of Truth – Anchor yourself in God’s Word, not the lies of culture.
- Breastplate of Righteousness – Guard your heart with integrity.
- Shield of Faith – Block every fiery dart of doubt or fear.
- Helmet of Salvation – Protect your mind with the assurance of Christ’s victory.
- Sword of the Spirit – Fight back with Scripture.
Think of this as your daily loadout. Without it, you’re exposed. With it, you’re prepared.
Train Like a Spiritual Warrior
Physical strength doesn’t come by accident – neither does spiritual strength.
Here’s your training plan:
- Daily Prayer – Your direct line to the Commander.
- Scripture Study – Your training manual.
- Fasting – Sharpen your focus and dependence on God.
A recent survey found that over half of Canadian men struggle to maintain consistent spiritual habits. That’s not a statistic you need to join. Show up. Train daily.
Building strength in God for spiritual warfare means conditioning your spirit just like you would your body.
Surround Yourself with Brothers-in-Arms
Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”
The lone wolf gets taken out first. You need a brotherhood that has your back when the fight gets heavy.
That means joining a men’s Bible study, a prayer group, or an accountability team. If you’re in Kamloops or anywhere nearby, there are men’s groups ready to stand with you.
Fight From Victory, Not For It
Here’s the mindset shift that changes everything – you’re not fighting for victory, you’re fighting from it.
1 Corinthians 15:57 tells us, “Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Christ has already won. The enemy’s attacks are real, but they’re desperate moves from a defeated foe. Stand your ground knowing the end of the story is already written.
Stand Firm, Stay Ready
To stand strong in God during spiritual warfare, you need to:
- Know your enemy.
- Wear your armor.
- Train daily.
- Stay in brotherhood.
- Fight from Christ’s victory.
You are more than a survivor – you are a warrior. So stand, stay sharp, and never fight in your own strength.
